Exploring Sustainability: Vaels International School Grade VIII Students Visit Vayal Organic Farm

At Vaels International School, we believe that real learning extends far beyond the four walls of a classroom. As part of our commitment to experiential and environmental education, our Grade VIII students recently participated in a field trip to Vayal Organic Farm, a fully sustainable and eco-friendly farming destination near Chennai.

This initiative aligns with our mission to be one of the best IGCSE schools in Chennai and to nurture responsible global citizens. The visit gave students hands-on exposure to the principles of organic farming, biodiversity, and sustainable living—key aspects of the 21st-century learning framework.

Learning from the Land

The trip to Vayal was a thoughtfully curated experience. Upon arrival, students were warmly welcomed by the farm’s sustainability experts, who guided them through various zones of the farm. Each section showcased an important element of eco-friendly agriculture—from composting pits and vermiculture beds to herbal gardens and traditional irrigation systems.

Students learned about:

  • Natural composting techniques
  • Chemical-free pest control
  • Crop rotation and companion planting
  • Beekeeping and its role in pollination
  • The interdependence of plants, animals, and microorganisms

As a top CISCE school in Chennai, we ensure that such real-world interactions reinforce academic learning in science, geography, and environmental studies.

Hands-On Experiences

The highlight of the visit was the opportunity for experiential learning through hands-on activities. Students got their hands dirty—literally! They planted seeds, learned to mulch using organic waste, created compost heaps, and even participated in a farm scavenger hunt that tested their knowledge of plant species.

These interactions made sustainability not just a concept—but a lived experience. Students saw firsthand how thoughtful farming techniques protect soil, save water, and preserve ecological balance.

Building Environmental Awareness

The visit sparked deep conversations about climate change, environmental ethics, and sustainable practices. Students discussed how personal and community choices—from food habits to waste management—impact the Earth.

More than just an educational trip, this outing built empathy for nature and a sense of environmental responsibility. These values lie at the core of why Vaels is considered one of the best IGCSE and CISCE schools in Chennai—we strive to balance academic excellence with character building and civic awareness.

Reflections That Last

At the end of the visit, students gathered for a reflection session where they shared their key takeaways. Many spoke about the importance of reducing plastic use, supporting local farmers, and adopting simple sustainable habits at home.

For some, the experience sparked curiosity about careers in environmental science, agriculture, and sustainable development. Others walked away with a renewed sense of appreciation for the food they eat and the people who grow it.

Why Experiential Learning Matters at Vaels

This farm visit is just one example of how Vaels International School integrates experiential learning into its curriculum. We believe that when students see, touch, feel, and do—they remember. They connect classroom concepts with real-life situations and develop skills like observation, inquiry, and collaboration.

As one of the best IGCSE and CISCE schools in Chennai, we are proud to lead the way in holistic education that not only informs but transforms.

A Note of Thanks

We sincerely thank the team at Vayal Organic Farm for hosting our students and providing such a valuable learning experience. We look forward to continuing our journey in building environmentally conscious, academically strong, and socially responsible learners.
